Curriculum Intent

At St Gregory's, the intent of our History curriculum is to progress our students on their way to understanding the past. By linking learning to a range of topics, students have opportunities to investigate and interpret the past, understand chronology, build an overview of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world, and to be able to communicate historically.

The intent of our History A-Level curriculum throughout KS5 is to progress our students in their understanding of our shared history and culture. Our programme of study intends to develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for history, gives an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance which allows students to acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of aspects such as social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity, as appropriate.

Students build on their work at GCSE through a balanced curriculum of topics (AQA):

  • Tudor England 1485-1603
  • American Dream 1945- 1980
  • Non-Exam Assessment Historical Enquiry – Student choice guided by the History Department (4500 words)
