Welcome to St Gregory’s, I look forward to getting to know you and your children well as they embark on their education with us.
St Gregory’s is an outstanding Catholic school where children flourish; our excellent pastoral support will ensure that your child is well-supported as they make this important transition from primary to secondary school.
We greatly value the links with our parents/carers and the important role that they play in the day-to-day life of our school but also know that moving onto secondary school can be a daunting experience for everyone – parents, carers and students alike.
Below you will find information and resources to support you and your child as they prepare for their first day at St Gregory’s. Year 6 parents/carers will meet your child’s new tutor at our summer transition events and they will be an important point of contact for your family, offering more personalised support as we move towards September. Dates for transition events will be provided in the Spring.
I look forward to working with you to support and inspire your child, to ensure that they have the necessary skills and educational experience to fulfil their potential and flourish in the safe, happy and enriching environment of St Gregory’s.
The partnership between home and school is vitally important and we hope the information provided throughout our transition programme will help our new and existing families to make the step from primary to secondary school as smooth and seamless as possible.
I am delighted to introduce myself to you as the Head of Year 7 and Transition leader at St Gregory’s. The move to secondary school is a very important step in the life of every young person. It is an extremely exciting step, yet can understandably be confusing and overwhelming at times. I am really looking forward to leading the year group into this new and important stage of education.
At St Gregory’s, we strive to promote the dignity and wellbeing of every child and ensure that they flourish in a safe, happy and enriching environment. My priority is to settle your sons and daughters into the school and to establish a positive, ambitious and warm ethos for the year group as a whole, by building on the secure foundations and accomplishments your child has already achieved thus far.
As a parent/carer you play an important role in the education of your child, and your encouragement and involvement is valued by all staff and this can help your child excel in all areas.
I hope you will support my high expectations, especially in regards to attendance and behaviour which naturally impacts greatly on achievement.
There are many new and exciting opportunities for your child to participate in throughout the year, which will be shared in due course, but for now, I just want to reiterate that if you have any questions and/or queries, please do not hesitate to get in contact. I look forward to meeting you soon and throughout this upcoming year.
I am passionate about supporting the needs of each individual in the year group and have high expectations not only for myself, but for all members of our school community.
Our Summer School programme, ‘Stepping Up’, will take place at St Gregory’s in July and aims to provide our new Year 7 students with a range of exciting and fun activities, delivered by our outstanding team of staff and sixth form students. We hope that this will provide a wonderful chance for your child to gain confidence, learn new skills and make new friends.
The PTFA will be hosting a Pre Loved Pop-Up Uniform Shop during the Transition Evening in July and on the last day of Summer School. Whilst we have many items of good quality clothing in stock, we do not have all items in all sizes!
Parents and carers are warmly invited to become an active member of the school’s Parent, Teachers and Friends Association. There are lots of ways to get involved in your child’s school community whilst at the same time raising funds for new projects. Further information can be found here.
This page is updated each summer with useful information and links for parents and carers of Year 6 pupils moving to St Gregory's in September.
