At St Gregory's, the intent of our History curriculum is to progress our students on their way to understanding the past. By linking learning to a range of topics, students have opportunities to investigate and interpret the past, understand chronology, build an overview of Britain’s past as well as that of the wider world, and to be able to communicate historically.
At KS3 we intend to give students:
A developing sense of curiosity about the past and how and why people interpret the past in different ways.
The KS3 History Curriculum lessons have been designed by History specialists who are experts in their field. Staff encourage students to ask questions and discuss the broader issues raised by the lesson content. This is supported by a range of Historical Enrichment trips throughout the key stage.
The design of the KS3 programme is built around core Historical themes from the National curriculum to support KS4 and KS5 study.
Across KS3, the topics cover a range of historical periods at different levels of development:

The intent of our History curriculum throughout KS4 is to progress our students in their understanding of our shared history and culture. Our curriculum intends to develop and extend their knowledge and understanding of key events, periods and societies in local, British, and wider world history. It also aims for students to investigate issues critically and to make valid historical claims by using a range of sources in their historical context. This allows them to develop an awareness of why people, events and developments have been accorded historical significance and how and why different interpretations have been constructed about them to reach substantiated judgements.
Students study a broad curriculum at KS4 which we feel gives a true overview of historical skills and different eras (AQA GCSE)
The intent of our History A-Level curriculum throughout KS5 is to progress our students in their understanding of our shared history and culture. Our programme of study intends to develop their interest in, and enthusiasm for history, gives an understanding of its intrinsic value and significance which allows students to acquire an understanding of different identities within society and an appreciation of aspects such as social, cultural, religious and ethnic diversity, as appropriate.
Students build on their work at GCSE through a balanced curriculum of topics (AQA):
