Headteacher's Reflections - 27th September 2024

As we become pilgrims of hope this year, harvest time is a perfect opportunity to put our faith into action

As we become pilgrims of hope this year, harvest time is a perfect opportunity to put our faith into action by considering those less fortunate on a local and global level. Thank you to all the students and families who have donated non-perishable gifts to support the Bath foodbank. Last year alone more than 5,000 families were supported to meet their basic needs with food from our local foodbank and over 1,000 children were fed by generous donations. It's not about how much one can give; it's the thought and care that goes into the giving that counts.

We have also been finding out about the incredible work the charity Mary's Meals is doing around the world. Did you know it only costs £19.15 to feed a child for a whole academic year? If you feel you can spare a bit of money for the common good and preferential option for the poor, your donations will go a long way to reducing childhood poverty and hunger: https://www.marysmeals.org.uk/

In other news, Year 7 have enjoyed their induction retreat at the beautiful venue of Our Lady and St Alphege. Thank you to Fr Robert for permitting us to use the church and parish centre as our retreat venue this year and to Mr Robinson and the staff who accompanied our students. I joined some of our Year 7s on Tuesday for their morning Mass and they were a credit to our school.

Please do spread the word that we have our Open Events next week: we have two 'school in action' open mornings on Tuesday 1 and Wednesday 2 October and our Open Evening on Thursday 3 October. I know our students will be incredible ambassadors for our school and give prospective families the best insight into what life is like at St Greg's where they receive an education for the whole person - academically, personally and spiritually.

I will leave you with a harvest prayer to send you into a wonderful weekend:

We bless you, God of Seed and Harvest,
and we bless each other,
That the beauty of this world,
and the love that created it,
Might be expressed though our lives
and be a blessing to others,
Now and always

Amen
